Beat the heat in style…

  • Shorts, skirts & crops are your best bets. If you want to cover your legs, cotton printed flowy pants are a great alternative.
  • Loose flowing sleeveless tops are the coolest. If your arms are a challenge, try cap sleeves or 3/4 sleeves. Short sleeves will often make your upper arms look thicker.
  • Lighter colors attract less heat- white, pink, yellow, lime & orange are good bets.
  • Thin cotton (woven or knit) is the coolest fabric- avoid heavy denim, spandex or polyester.
  • Avoid tight waistbands or tight armholes. Loose clothing that doesn’t “touch” is more comfortable, but avoid baggy or shapeless styles.
  • Always carry a lightweight jacket or cotton sweater for cool evenings or frigid air conditioning.
  • Keep your neck bare- avoid choker necklaces and scarves. Save your scarves for your waist or under a jacket lapel. Accessorize with earrings, bangle bracelets or long necklaces.
  • Sandals are the best footwear. If you need to wear a closed-toe shoe, sprinkle the inside with talcum powder or wear footsie socks (Peds) to keep your feet from sweating and ruining the inside of your shoes.
  • Try ExOfficio wicking underwear and remember to always keep your underwear hidden.
  • Poise Roll-on Cooling Gel ($8 drugstores) is a boon for hot days; the gel can be applied on wrists and neck for heat relief.
